Today seems somewhat of a sensational day here at the Football Transfer Tavern and the latest claim from the Daily Mirror does not change this mood one bit. The publication claims that a swap deal could be on the cards for Liverpool’s Andy Carroll and Newcastle United’s Hatem Ben Arfa.
Andy Carroll of course made his name for the Magpies and it was his form at the Tyneside club that earned him the £35 million move to Liverpool yet it has never really worked out for him on Merseyside and currently enjoying a loan spell at West Ham United, Carroll now faces an uncertain future.
Brendan Rodgers has long been a fan of Hatem Ben Arfa and would be more than willing for a swap deal between the two players to occur. Fully aware that the full transfer fee paid will not be recouped for Carroll, Rodgers is now looking to make the best out of a very bad situation and a loan deal could well be the way to do that.
After a huge bust up between Alan Pardew and Rodgers over the issues with the Carroll transfer initially, relations have now improved and cautious discussions between the clubs have begun about the potential of this deal happening for real.
Carroll would reportedly welcome a return to St. James’ Park again and possibly break into the England squad ahead of the World Cup in 2014.
