Liverpool fans are pretty happy in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon, with their team sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League.
And more good news has come their way, courtesy of sources at talkSPORT, who reckon the Reds are plotting an audacious £25 million offer for Real Madrid star Marcelo.
Left back has been a problem position for the Reds this season, although Jon Flanagan has emerged as a top performer in the position since February.
But first choice Jose Enrique has been missing through injury since the middle of October, and Aly Cissokho is set to return to Valencia at the end of the season following an unsuccessful loan spell on Merseyside.
Now it seems Brendan Rodgers has set his sights on Real Madrid’s Brazilian international star, who has been a regular starter since signing from Fluminense in 2007.
The Spanish giants have been linked with a move for Chelsea left back Ashley Cole, with Carlo Ancelotti reportedly keen to sign the player he worked with during his time as manager of the Blues, when his contract expires at the end of the season.
That could mean Real would be willing to make some money through the sale of Marcelo, with reports suggesting £25 million will be enough for the Reds to secure the deal.
The 25-year-old has just one year remaining on his current contract at the Bernabeu, meaning a decision is set to be made on his future one way or another shortly.
The Brazilian international – who started his career as a left winger – has amassed over 200 appearances during his time at Real Madrid.
Do Liverpool need to spend £25 million on a Brazilian left back when they already have the ‘Red Cafu’ in the form of Jon Flanagan? Let us know your thoughts below.
