Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we have been impressed with Atletico Madrid’s stunning start to the season in La Liga.
It comes as no surprise to see yet another of Diego Simeone’s star players linked with a possible move to the Premier League.
The latest reports come from today’s copy of The Express who suggest that Manchester United and Liverpool are set for a transfer battle over Atletico midfielder Arda Turan during the upcoming January transfer window.
Simeone has taken his side to second in the Spanish top flight with Turan proving an integral part of his side, contributing already with three goals and five assists this term.
This has seen a host of scouts keeping tabs on the Turkish international, although any move could be unlikely given he only recently extended his contract, keeping him at the Vicente Calderon club until 2016.
However with a new contract in Spain comes a release clause and the 26-year-old, who can play on either wing or behind the striker, is set at £33 million and that could open the possibility of seeing Turan in the Premier League soon.
Turan’s agent Ahmet Bulut even recently revealed that the attacker has a long-term desire to play for United, given the suggested interest from the Red Devils and Liverpool.
“A destination in the Premier League would be to the liking of the player and I can confirm there are clubs interested, like the two mentioned,” said Bulut.
“He wants to work in England.”
Should either of the Premier League giants fork out as much as £33 million for Arda Turan? Let us know your thoughts below.
