Liverpool plot move for recently relegated England international

TownsendLiverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are intrigued by one story passed their way today, which suggests a surprise move could be set to go ahead.

The Daily Mirror states Liverpool are plotting a move for England international Andros Townsend, who was recently relegated to the Championship with Newcastle United.

Townsend only moved to Tyneside from Tottenham Hotspur in January but it could just be a brief stint in his career, as it’s stated he has a £10.5m release clause in his contract with the now second-tier giants.

Interest in the 24-year-old is high, with the likes of Manchester City and Southampton also linked with his services, though interest from the Citizens it’s much like Liverpool’s own keenness, as they’ll move for Townsend if they miss out on other targets.

Our landlord reckons Townsend could be great for Liverpool though and the move would help the winger establish himself once again in the England set-up, after missing out on Roy Hodgson’s squad for the European Championships.

Liverpool fans, would Townsend be a good purchase? Let us know in the comments below!
