Manager Roy Hodgson has stuck with a tried and tested formula of picking players because of teams they play for rather than on their actual form.
One of those surprisingly selected by Hodgson is young Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker, who has done well in an otherwise leaky Bluebirds defence.
Now reports from The Telegraph have indicated that the youngster is being eyed up by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers as he attempts to reinforce his defence in the summer.
Rodgers actually worked the 22-year-old for a season after he signed from Tottenham for the Northern Irishman’s Swansea City outfit in 2011 and now wants to bring him to Anfield.
The former Spurs man joined the Swans’ arch-rivals Cardiff City in a £8.5 million deal and has shown his quality for the relegation threatened side, although whether he deserves an England call up is an argument for another day.
While the Reds have been outstanding in attack, the same cannot be said for their backline who have conceded nine goals just this month.
Liverpool’s transfer dealings are likely to be affected by any qualification for the Champions League so we’ve filed this one as a ‘possibility’.
We’re not quite sure if Caulker is the defensive answer for the Reds but what do you think? Let us know your thoughts below.
