Now the Reds fans’ attention has been distracted with emerging speculation about a youngster, described as the new Messi, who could arrive at Anfield.
David Wright from The Express reports that Liverpool are preparing a bid for FC Porto playmaker Juan Iturbe who is currently on loan with Serie A outfit Hellas Verona.
Wright explains that the 20-year-old Argentine is being watched by a host of top European sides after some earning rave reviews, including those from the Premier League and La Liga.
Liverpool appear to be leading the English chasing pack as Brendan Rodgers lines up a summer move for the highly-rated midfielder after his season-long loan finishes in Italy. However the Anfield club could face fierce competition from Spanish giants Barcelona who are also keeping track of the Argentina U-20 international’s progress.
Rodgers is seeking more creativity in his side and the youngster versatility in attack would certainly offer him more options behind front choice duo Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
Iturbe has netted twice this season in Serie A while has contributed one assists in his four stars this season and he would fit Liverpool’s transfer policy of bringing the finest young talent to Merseyside.
