The Football Transfer Tavern is reflecting on the weekend’s action today and looking outside of the Premier League we have noticed the attention focused on Derby County youngster Will Hughes.

Now Metro reports that Liverpool are closing in on a deal for highly rated Derby County youngster Will Hughes with Brendan Rodgers ready to table a £6 million offer for the 18-year-old starlet.

Hughes is considered as one of the finest young prospects outside of the Premier League and a host of Premier League sides are understood to be watching the Rams’ England Under-21 international who has racked up nearly 50 appearances for Nigel Clough’s side.

The Reds sent chief scout Dave Fallows to watch Hughes during his impressive performance for the England Under-21’s against Scotland last week and now reports from Anfield suggest that a £6 million offer will be submitted within days.

Derby have always maintained that they do not want to sell the youngster, but Clough admitted over the weekend that he might go if the price is right.

“There is interest but at the moment nothing is happening with Will,” said the Rams boss.

“But at the end of the transfer window anything can happen.”

The cultured midfielder, who still has three years to run on his contract at Pride Park, could be ready to make an instant impact in the top flight and if brought in would represent Liverpool’s fifth signing of the summer following the acquisitions of Kolo Toure, Simon Mignolet, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas.
