Liverpool fans are putting down their pints and pricking up their ears at the latest story from talkSPORT who are claiming that the Reds are set to launch a bid for Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer.
Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the player and is willing to pay at least £12 million for him. Thankfully for Liverpool, Shakhtar Donetsk are willing to sell the player they have owned since 2010 and would accept a figure close to that price.
Mkhitaryan has opened the door for a move after claiming that a new challenge is something he would relish as he approaches what should be the peak of his career. He claimed that a move to one of the top leagues in Europe is something he has earmarked for his future and at only 24 years of age would represent a brilliant investment for Liverpool.
The club face changes in the summer especially in their back line with Pepe Reiaa linked to Arsenal and Jamie Carragher set to retire at the end of the current campaign. Rodgers wants to take the focus away from this and the uncertainty over Luis Suarez and is looking to build on the January transfer window signings of Philippe Coutinho and former Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge.
Will the Reds complete a swoop for Mkhitaryan in the summer? Rate this rumour below.
