Simon Mignolet’s Liverpool career has been something of a nightmare in recent memory.
The Belgium international has had to play second fiddle to the likes of Loris Karius and Alisson Becker over the past couple of seasons and has had to make do with a place on the substitutes bench at Anfield.
However, it appears he could be about to be given his chance to end his spell with the Premier League title-chasers in the summer.
What’s the News?
According to sources close to Football Insider, Liverpool are prepared to offload Mignolet this summer.
The 31-year-old shot-stopper’s attitude, work-rate and professionalism are thought to have impressed Jurgen Klopp behind the scenes this term, but that hasn’t been enough to change their perspective, it seems.
Indeed, with no run in the first team in sight, a departure is seemingly on the cards.
It is hardly surprising to see that Liverpool are prepared to listen to offers for Mignolet in the summer.
Despite the ‘keeper supposedly being the epitome of a professional, the Belgian can hardly be happy about having to make do with a place on the bench week in and week out.
And, with the way that Alisson has been playing, it is rather evident that a place in the first-team is far from his grasp at Anfield.
Although the club are not necessarily short of money, being able to save on his £60,000-a-week wages (per Spotrac) would allow funds to be freed up for other acquisitions, especially a back-up ‘keeper, as Karius is hardly good enough.
