Liverpool pulled out of deal to sign 22-year-old midfielder

rodgers222More disappointing news for Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern reading the Mirror today as they have pulled the plug on a deal to sign 22-year-old midfielder Mario Lemina from Marseille.

Brendan Rodgers was interested in the player as a replacement for Lucas Leiva, who was expected to leave during the summer, with Besiktas thought to be close to a deal. The Brazilian fell out of favour with the manager last year, and was injured for a lot of the campaign. However in recent weeks managed to force his way back into the starting line up and ended up staying at Anfield.

It now looks like Lucas will stay at the club long-term after leading the club to apparently end their interest in his potential replacement.

Lemina ended up joining Juventus on loan on transfer deadline day, with the Serie A champions given an option to buy at the end of the season, but Liverpool had been hoping to swoop in and strike a deal!

Our resident Reds fans here in the Transfer Tavern simply don’t have a clue what to make of this news story, because not one of them has ever seen Lemina play football before!

Liverpool fans. What do you know about Lemina? Are you happy you kept hold of Lucas Leiva? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
