The Independent have Liverpool fans looking up with interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they seem to think that the Reds will have to pay at least £30 million if they want to bring Gonzalo Higuain to the club.
The Reds have targeted the Napoli frontman after witnessing Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini flop in front of goal and now want a proven goalscorer to save their season.
As one of our punters notes, we think that the Argentine international could well be keen on a move to the Premier League.
The interesting part of these reports however is the fact that Rafael Benitez could well be following Higuain to Anfield to potentially succeed Brendan Rodgers with the Spanish tactician keen on linking up with the man nicknamed ‘Pipita’ at Anfield.
Before Christmas, rumours were rife that Rafa could return to Anfield and Benitez who of course spent a largely successful period managing Liverpool, still has family who live on Merseyside.
We think that Higuain would be a world class signing for the Merseyside club. That said, once word gets out that he could well be up for sale by the Azzurri, we think that a couple more clubs could try and move for the player, potentially pushing Higuain’s transfer fee up.
Liverpool fans. Is Gonzalo Higuain a realistic transfer target this January or is it ‘dreamland’ to think you could capture him? Let us know your thoughts below.
