The Daily Mail have a sensational claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Liverpool will ask for up to £50 million for Luis Suarez who is reportedly keen on a summer switch to Arsenal.
The club have been locked in a summer long battle to hold onto the Uruguayan forward and it seems that now their new strategy is to up their price for the forward – and hope that Arsene Wenger will baulk at the asking price.
Having already offered several amounts for the forward, Wenger is growing increasingly confident he can land the forward and now and has been told that he can make a further bid for around £40 million.
Suarez himself is keen to move to a club that can offer him chances to win the title and not only that – play in the elusive Champions League – something that Liverpool have not done for a while and do not look like doing any time soon.
Given that Wenger has promised his fans and players that a top signing will be on the horizon this summer, he may well have to stump up the full £50 million for Suarez.
Liverpool are well aware of how much Arsenal want the forward and will demand in excess of £50 million for him – and hope that Wenger is willing to spend the rest of his transfer kitty on bringing the forward to the Emirates Stadium.
