Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are feeling very good right now but they have received a bit of a blow thanks to Claudio Ranieri’s comments via The Daily Star.
The Reds have been going well this season and are currently six points off of Chelsea at the top of the league but many have felt that they have played some of the best football in the league.
What has let them down at times, though, this season is their defence and goalkeeper once again and that has led to them reportedly being interested in Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel.
Certainly, the Danish international has plenty of experience and, of course, title winning knowledge that he could bring to the Anfield side but his current manager, Ranieri, has completely ruled out a deal.
The Foxes are trying to fight relegation this season after winning the league last year and the Italian was clearly in no mood to entertain such transfer talk in their current plight.
The former Chelsea boss said of the rumour:
“He is under contract and we won’t sell him under any circumstances.
“Not even big money. We don’t need the money. There’s no chance.
“I’m sorry for Liverpool but they can win the title without Kasper.”
Pretty conclusive for the Reds, then, and so if they want to sign a new stopper in the near future they’re going to have to look elsewhere.
