Liverpool regular wants to depart the club in January, he has requested to leave – report

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the January transfer window will be about incoming players, rather than departing players. The Reds are in need of a bit of reinforcement as they look to catch Man City in the Premier League, with some more quality required at Anfield.

Unfortunately, though, the January dream for the Anfield faithful is in danger of unravelling, with a report from Mundo Deportivo claiming that a Liverpool star has requested to leave the club. According to Mundo Deportivo, midfielder Philippe Coutinho has once again requested to leave the club in January, with the 25-year-old reportedly keen to move to Barcelona at the first available opportunity.

This poses quite a significant problem for Liverpool. Coutinho has been one of their most important players this season, and alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, he has been a part of one of the Premier League’s most potent attacks. A regular in the first team, he’s an irreplaceable member of the Liverpool squad.

With Liverpool unlikely to be able to land a player of equal quality within the short timeframe of the January window, this move would also risk their chances of succeeding in the second-half of the campaign.

That being said, Liverpool were able to hang on to him over the summer, and so there is no scope for them to be forced to sell their star midfielder, but further unsettling is the last thing that Jurgen Klopp needs right now.

Landlord’s Verdict

Liverpool hold the power right now, but more speculation over his future is only going to be bad for the Reds.

Holding him against his will is not an ideal situation, but neither is losing such a key player in January.

Liverpool will need to play this carefully, as Coutinho is clearly keen on a departure.
