Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern welcomed a fiery Italian to their club this summer when they replaced Luis Suarez with Mario Balotelli.
But according to talkSPORT, the Merseyside club almost lost one of Balotelli’s international compatriots when Inter Milan bid for Fabio Borini.
Reports suggest that Borini was targeted by the Italian club in a late deadline day move which would have seen the Serie A giants take him on a season-long loan.
Borini was fully expected to leave Anfield this summer with Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers both keen on signing him on a permanent deal.
However it appears that there was interest rebuffed by the attacker from his home country as well as in England.
The loan deal with Inter Milan was also believed to contain a clause with a view to a permanent deal next summer, however Liverpool were more interested in a permanent sale.
But Borini stood his ground and refused to leave the club, believing that he had done enough on loan at Sunderland last season to warrant a run of games in the Liverpool first team under Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool fans. Do you admire Borini for wanting to stay with the club or should he have accepted that he was not needed at the club? Let us know your thoughts below.
