For the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern, there is a real need for midfield depth at the club…
With Philippe Coutinho facing an uncertain future, and Adam Lallana set for a relatively long-term injury layoff, Jurgen Klopp’s options are quickly reducing – and so this is something that needs to be acted upon.
Fortunately, according to Transfer Market Web, Liverpool are preparing to do just that. They report that Liverpool are ‘close’ to a move for Jean Michaël Seri, who has impressed in the Nice midfield over the last year or so. A deal of around €22.5 million (£20.4 million) is said to have been agreed, so it appears as though the Reds are edging closer to securing the transfer.
Seri, of course, earned plaudits for his fine performances at Nice last season, with the French side challenging at the top of Ligue 1 for much of the campaign. WhoScored.com gave him a 7.23 average rating last term, which is a testament to his quality.
A central midfielder by trade, Seri is a fantastic tackler and is good at breaking up play, whilst he is also very efficient on the ball. Typically playing quite deep in the middle of the park, his fantastic range of passing often serves as a catalyst for offensive moves as Nice move forward.
Seri has proven that he is good enough to play at the highest level, and he is exactly the type of player that the Reds need.
A fee of £20.4 million is a bargain in today’s market, and so if that is the fee, Jurgen Klopp will have arguably landed the bargain of the summer.
Until a move has been confirmed, though, the Reds in the Transfer Tavern are holding their breath.
