Liverpool reportedly edging closer to securing deal for 23-year-old midfielder

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are gearing up for a busy summer at Anfield…

Last year was a pretty successful one for the Reds, with the ultimate goal – the return to the top four and subsequent return to the Champions League – achieved by Jurgen Klopp and his players.

There will undoubtedly be a lot of focus on improving the team that did so well last year this summer, but also on Klopp’s agenda will be ensuring that his most important players are tied down to long-term deals at the club, and as per Tutto Mercato Web, the Reds could be looking to ensure that one midfielder is definitely at Anfield next season.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Liverpool chances of timing Emre Can down to a new deal are said to be ‘likely’, with the German’s current deal expiring in 2018. It is noted that an offer worth around £100,000-per-week could be on the cards.

Though rarely a spectacular figure, Can has been a very reliable and consistent hand for Jurgen Klopp since his arrival, with the 23-year-old filling in wherever and whenever he is needed at Anfield. Though naturally a central midfield, he has also impressed in a variety of other positions this season – becoming a fan favourite in the process.

Towards the end of the season he began to stake a claim for a regular starting berth, and if that continues during pre-season and beyond, Klopp could be looking at his next midfield enforcer.
