Liverpool supporters have been much more buoyant in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side get back to winning ways in the Premier League courtesy of a routine 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Terriers off the back of defeats to Swansea City and West Brom, the latter knocking them out of the FA Cup at the fourth round stage for the third successive season. Yet the Reds were never in danger at the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday night as goals from Emre Can, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah secured a comfortable success for the Merseyside giants, strengthening their grip on fourth place in the Premier League table.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further intrigued and perhaps encouraged by a recent report from Don Balon, which suggests that the Reds are eyeing up a mega deadline day move for Real Madrid midfielder Isco.
The 25-year-old made the move to the Spanish capital back in 2013 and has since gone on to score 39 goals and lay on 51 assists in 221 games for the European champions, six goals and six assists of which have come in their underwhelming campaign thus far.
However, the Spain international has managed just two starts in Real’s last six La Liga matches to suggest that he is not at the absolute forefront of Zinedine Zidane’s plans, and Liverpool are one side reportedly keen on securing a mega deal for him in the last knockings of the winter transfer window.
Chelsea and Manchester City are also thought to be interested in the influential midfielder, but whether any of the Premier League trio are able to lure Isco away from the Bernabeu with just hours of the window left remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Philippe Coutinho’s departure from Liverpool earlier this month has left a sizable hole in their midfield and attacking ranks, a hole that as of yet hasn’t been filled by manager Jurgen Klopp in the January transfer window.
However, the Reds chief is reportedly keen a sensational last-ditch move to bring Real Madrid’s Isco to Anfield, with the 25-year-old struggling somewhat for regular gametime at the Bernabeu in recent times.
The Spaniard’s quality is unquestionable, and he would certainly bring something different to the Liverpool midfield, but with hours left of the window, landing a deal is surely going to be a tall order for Klopp and the club’s hierarchy.
