Liverpool supporters have been making all the noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side become the first team to beat Manchester City in the Premier League this season with a thrilling 4-3 win over the table-toppers on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the runaway leaders expected to ask serious questions of the Citizens’ 22-match unbeaten start to the campaign, and they did just that with a wonderful performance at Anfield. Goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah secured the three points for the Merseyside giants, in turn moving them above champions Chelsea into third place in the Premier League table, and three points clear of fifth place Tottenham.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Tuttosport, which discloses the Reds as part of a heavyweight race in pursuit of North Korea international Kwang-song Han.
The 19-year-old sensation currently plays his trade at Serie B side Perugia on loan from Italian top-flight outfit Cagliari, and he has so far enjoyed an excellent spell in the second tier with seven goals and three assists for the club, helping them to 14th place in the league table.
And, unsurprisingly, the forward has attracted much interest from top clubs around Europe in recent times, with Liverpool thought to be in a heavyweight race alongside Juventus and indeed Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham in pursuit of the teenage sensation.
But whether the Reds are indeed able to beat the aforementioned duo to Han’s signature very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Philippe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona earlier this month has left Liverpool slightly short of attacking options heading into 2018, but it does appear that manager Jurgen Klopp is in the market for reinforcements, be it for now or in the future.
And their reported interest in Perugia’s forward sensation Kwang-song Han is likely to fall into the latter category, with the North Korean international just 19 years of age but certainly proving his worth in Serie B.
And he must be doing something right as Juventus, Tottenham, and of course Liverpool have been linked with the forward, leaving his long-term future very much uncertain amid interest from some European heavyweights.
