Liverpool reportedly lining up sensational move in bid to replace Coutinho

Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their team become the first to beat table-toppers Manchester City in the Premier League this season courtesy of a 4-3 success on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the runaway leaders off the back of a 17-match unbeaten streak, a run which has propelled them above both Arsenal and Tottenham in the race for Champions League football. And the Reds strengthened their grip on a top four place at Anfield last weekend as goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah secured the three points for the Merseyside giants, in turn inflicting a first loss on Pep Guardiola’s City, although it is unlikely to derail their march towards the title.

Thus, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians in the Tavern in the last few days, and they are likely to be further encouraged by a recent report from Don Balon, which suggests that they are interested in a sensational move to bring Real Madrid attacker James Rodriguez to Anfield.

The 26-year-old made the move to the Bernabeu back in 2014 after impressing with Colombia at the World Cup earlier that year, but his struggles in the Spanish capital in recent years led to him being loaned out to Bayern Munich at the start of this season.

And with three goals and four assists in 13 Bundesliga games, the forward has certainly proven his worth, and appears to have attracted the interest of Klopp’s Liverpool at the same time, with the Reds possibly looking at Rodriguez as a replacement for the recently sold Philippe Coutinho.

But it remains to be seen whether the Merseysiders can indeed get a deal done for the Colombian star in the summer.

Landlord’s verdict: James Rodriguez’s performances for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup earned him a huge move to Real Madrid later that year, and while things started off well in the Spanish capital, they certainly fizzled out in recent times.

As such, the 26-year-old is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, where he has bagged three goals and laid on four assists in 13 Bundesliga games, but it is Liverpool who are reportedly seeking to end his time at Real by lining up a sensational move for the attacker in the summer.

The Reds saw Philippe Coutinho leave the club earlier this month to leave them slightly short of attacking options, but with the fee they received from Barcelona, they should be able to get a decent replacement in.

But whether Rodriguez will be that replacement remains to be seen.
