The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to improve over the next few weeks…
It has been a mixed summer for the Reds, with Mo Salah’s arrival an obvious highlight, but beyond the arrival of the Egyptian – there hasn’t been too much to shout about at Anfield
Indeed, the last few days have been more about negativity than positivity, with reports linking midfielder Philippe Coutinho with a move to Barcelona.
It’s a move that the Reds in the pub have been fearing, but it appears as though Jurgen Klopp has a plan. According to Mundo Deportivo, Klopp is anticipating that Coutinho will leave the club this summer – despite his wishes – and so he is preparing to that end. Significantly, it is apparently highly likely that the club will look to bring Andre Gomes on board if Coutinho leaves, with Klopp reportedly hoping to include the Barcelona midfielder in any deal for the Brazilian.
Clearly, Klopp doesn’t want to lose his player without getting anything in return, and with just a few weeks until the end of the summer transfer window, it seems unlikely that the German will be able to make use of the added funds before time is out.
Coutinho’s departure would be a huge loss for Liverpool, and at present, the prospect of Andre Gomes moving to Anfield isn’t a particularly enticing one.
He had impressed prior to moving to the Nou Camp, but after an injury ravaged season, his stock has never been lower. He really struggled with the Catalan giants, and given the short memory of most football fans, this is enough to take away their interest in any prospective move.
However, on his day, he is a top player – and if Klopp can keep him fit, this would be a good move for the Reds. However, that is a big if.
