When a top player becomes available on the market, you expect vast competition in the race for his services and that’s exactly what Manchester City and Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing today.
Whilst there were reports that Manchester City had won the race for Barcelona stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Squawka now state Liverpool retain hope of beating their Premier League rivals to the quality goalkeeper.
Ter Stegen is keen to leave Barcelona for more first-team football, as he’s second-choice in Catalonia behind Claudio Bravo, but the German international is yet to decide fully upon his future- although some reports claimed otherwise.
For Liverpool it’s a major boost and it did raise questions when City were made the frontrunners for Ter Stegen’s signature, as he’d have to compete with Joe Hart for first-team football at the Etihad whereas at Anfield he’d definitely be considered first-choice.
After almost two years in Barcelona, where Ter Stegen won the Champions League in his first season, the former Borussia Monchengladbach stopper seems set to achieve more success this season.
Would it be better for Ter Stegen to join Liverpool? Let us know in the comments below!
