Having already welcomed Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum into the club already, the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been shocked to hear the club are reportedly after another attacker.
According to Portuguese outlet Diario de Noticias, Jurgen Klopp has had a bid snubbed by Sporting Lisbon for EURO 2016 winner Joao Mario.
The 23-year old has previously been linked with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea after impressing in France this summer, though the Reds are said to have made the first move.
As revealed by the player’s father, both the Merseyside giants and Inter Milan have had offers rebuffed by top brass in the Portuguese capital.
The offer coming out of Anfield is said to be around €40m, which equates to roughly £33m, meaning he would have become one of the club’s most expensive players of all time.
Klopp has already splashed big money on the likes Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane this season, though has seen Jordon Ibe depart.
‘‘Proposals for the lad don’t come directly to me,’’ Mario’s father said.
They go to his agent, Kia Joorabchian, and the Sporting President. I was informed, however, that the club said no to €35m plus €10m in bonuses from Inter and to €40m from Liverpool.
‘Nothing particular has happened, my son is a professional and knows he has a contract with Sporting.”
