Liverpool rocked as prime target closes in on £37m transfer

Alex TeixeiraLiverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t quite believe what they’re reading this afternoon, with the punters playing darts struggling to get their heads around what they’ve just been told.

CalcioMercato report that Jurgen Klopp’s prime target Alex Teixeira is closing in on a move elsewhere, with Chinese side Jiangsu Suning set to sign the Brazilian for a whopping €50m (£37m).

Liverpool saw numerous bids for the Shakhtar Donetsk star rejected in the closing weeks of the January window, despite the midfielder wanting to leave the Ukranian side, and their inability to seal a deal means they’re set to miss out completely.

The mega-rich Chinese side are close to agreeing personal terms with Teixeira, in another massive transfer that follows the recent acquisition of Chelsea midfielder Ramires.

Football in the Far East is enjoying a meteoric rise this month, with Guangzhou Evergrande setting an Asian transfer record yesterday with the £31m signing of Jackson Martinez. However, that record is set to be smashed again, should Teixeira’s proposed move come through.

Liverpool fans in the bar are slamming Teixeira, calling him a mercenary, but our landlord reckons they’re just jealous and the pain of missing out on another top-target is becoming too much for them to bare.

Reds fans, how frustrated are you to miss out on Teixeira? Let us know in the comments below!
