Christian Benteke is like Marmite here at the Transfer Tavern, with many laughing at his sensational £32.5m move to Liverpool from Aston Villa, but one man has declared that the Reds secured a ‘bargain’.
Tim Sherwood, a hero in Villa’s eyes after steering them away from relegation and to the FA Cup final, is quoted by The Daily Mail as believing that Benteke was worth a lot more than his £32.5m release clause.
That seems quite biased in our eyes, as Benteke hasn’t proven himself to be worth such a high-price amid a Liverpool side surrounded by issues- currently struggling, although they did win this afternoon against the Belgian’s former side.
There’s no doubt Benteke is a capable striker but he’s definitely not the same calibre of forward that Liverpool fans have grown to adore over the years, as he’s not in the same category as Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres and Michael Owen.
Whilst Sherwood feels shortchanged, we would have snapped your arm off to get such a staggering figure for an average Premier League striker.
Liverpool fans, was the money you spent on Benteke worth it?
