Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are groaning after hearing a move for a long-term target has fallen flat on it’s face, with a proposed bid being rejected.
The Telegraph states Liverpool have seen a move for Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell rejected by the Premier League champions, who are keen to keep hold of one of the brightest young talents in British football.
Leicester are likely to have to accept a sale for the 19-year-old though as he has just 12 months remaining on his contract but they’re demanding at least £10m for the player’s services, subsequently rejecting Liverpool’s bid of £7m.
Jurgen Klopp has already bolstered his defence this summer with the addition of Cameroonian centre-back Joel Matip, whilst Lorius Karius will compete for a spot between the sticks with Simon Mignolet, but the club have concerns regarding left-back Alberto Moreno.
Signing Chilwell may solve that left-sided problem but if Leicester continue to be shrewd negotiators, Klopp’s outfit could turn their attentions elsewhere.
