Liverpool are set to enter the summer race to secure a deal for sought after Southampton central defender Virgil van Dijk, with the Dutchman at the top of the Reds’ list of potential recruits, according to The Times.
The Reds will know that they will face a real fight to lure the player to Merseyside, amid interest from both Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs.
A couple of Liverpool fans are tucking into a couple of pre-match pints ahead of this afternoon’s Easter Monday football and they believe that paying £50 million for the central defender would represent a real statement of intent by the club.
The 25-year-old is currently out injured and with him not expected to return during the remainder of the current campaign he looks to have played his last game for the Saints.
One Saints fan is sat chatting to the landlord and he thinks that Van Dijk is an extremely good player but he does concede that £50 million would be far too good a bid for the club to turn down.
Southampton fans, would you welcome Van Dijk’s departure? Liverpool fans, how would you feel about signing the central defender in the summer? Let us know in the comments below!!!
