Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are struggling to come to terms with Steven Gerrard’s exit after the Sunday Mirror revealed they were chasing Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illaramendi.
The Reds are pursuing the midfielder in the hope he can help fill the void which will be left by Gerrard.
The 25-year-old joined Madrid in 2013 from Real Sociedad in 2013 but has struggled to get regular game time as he has had to play second fiddle to the partnership of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
Brendan Rodgers has been tracking the Spaniard for a long time now and it is believed they are going to take their interest to the next level with a bid of £8.5m.
But Los Blancos are looking to sell him for £10m, so there is set to be some negotiating between the two clubs, as Liverpool are keen to get the deal over the line.
