Liverpool set to offer heavy fee to bring £100k-a-week man to Anfield from PL rivals

It’s fair to say that Liverpool fans here at The Transfer Tavern are massively excited about the season ahead. After a campaign of ups and downs in the English Premier League, they have a manager and a team they believe in and most are confident of progress again next year, especially if they can make some key signings in the transfer window.

The Reds have plenty of money at their disposal this summer and you’d fancy them to make a few signings of note and grab the headlines with some marquee players.

One such deal could involve Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who The Express report is the subject of interest from Jurgen Klopp.

The paper says that the Gunners have opened initial discussions with the midfielder to stay at the Emirates and sign a £100,000-per-week deal but that Klopp is determined to bring him to Anfield.

In order to do that, the report suggests that the Reds are willing to spend up to a whopping £40m to land their man. That’s a hefty fee for a player entering the last 12 months of his contract.

Nonetheless he would be a quality addition to the ranks at Liverpool. With versatility and a creative attacking threat, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s skill was on full display just this weekend when his goal helped England to a 2-2 draw against Scotland.

What do you think Liverpool fans? Is Klopp correct to be so enamoured with Oxlade-Chamberlain or would you prefer him to find another midfield talent?
