Liverpool fans are rushing over to the bar here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as the Daily Star claims that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers could be sacked if they fail to beat Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup.
The Merseyside club face a tough test away at Ewood Park tomorrow night, in a game that fans of the club will be desperate to win.
A semi-final against Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa awaits at Wembley for the winner of the contest tomorrow night, but defeat for the Reds could see the end of the reign of Rodgers at Liverpool according to Jason Cundy.
Cundy said: “Has Rodgers lost the dressing room? Well I’d be surprised if that was the case, but it’ll be a very difficult dressing room to rouse if they lose to Blackburn this week.
“In fact, I really think Rodgers could be facing the sack if they go out at Ewood Park.
“People will say this would be extremely harsh, and I agree. But we don’t speak for Fenway Sports Group, do we?
“All they are interested in is results, and no matter how promising Rodgers is as a manager, they’ll look at the bottom line and conclude that it’s not been good enough.”
Liverpool fans over by the billiards table here inside the Football Transfer Tavern simply don’t know what to make of this news, with many arguing it would be ridiculously harsh to let go of Rodgers after everything he has done for the club!
Meanwhile, a minority of Liverpool fans here in the tavern feel that it would be the right thing to do, with defeat to Blackburn simply not acceptable.
