Liverpool should do all they can to land this £27m-rated attacker in January if Coutinho leaves – agreed?

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about the prospect of Philippe Coutinho leaving the club. The Brazilian is reportedly on course to switch Merseyside for Barcelona, leaving our resident Reds fearing the worst.

Certainly, the proposed departure of Coutinho is going to have a massive impact on Liverpool, but they could soften the blow by bringing in a top tier replacement. One player that could be absolutely perfect is Thomas Lemar.

Lemar currently plays for Monaco, where he has been simply sensational over the last couple of years. Typically playing on the left-hand side of the attack, the Frenchman provides fantastic energy and pace, whilst his skill on the ball is eerily reminiscent of Coutinho’s. Able to pass and dribble freely, the Frenchman shares a number of traits with the player that he should replace. Significantly, he’s also played through the middle on occasion this season, and so Klopp could even utilise him there if needed.

At 22-years-old, he’s a young player, but he’s already very experienced. He’s played in Europe with Monaco, and he has even won the French league, and so it’s not like the Reds would be bringing in an unproven amateur. Despite his youth, he’s already achieved more than many of Liverpool’s first team players have. Significantly, at 22, he’s also a player that could remain in the team for the foreseeable future, making any investment worthwhile.

He’s rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt, and whilst Monaco would likely demand more than his market value for the transfer, he’d be worth every penny. Liverpool will need to bring in a big name to appease the fans if Coutinho is sold, and he’s the perfect replacement for him.
