The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been very impressed by Andy Robertson at left-back. The young Scottish defender has been a surprise package this term, having been brought in with very little fanfare last summer.
After a slow start, he has really developed and come of age this term, and he’s now undoubtedly Liverpool’s first choice left-back. His rise has made him quite the favourite amongst the fans at Anfield, with supporters clearly impressed with his dedication, passion and desire to succeed at the club.
However, he can’t be expected to man the position on his own. Alberto Moreno isn’t good enough to command a regular start, and so Jurgen Klopp should consider bringing in a new left-back to provide some much-needed competition for Robertson.
Our landlord thinks that Man Utd man Luke Shaw could be a great choice.
Shaw, who is rated at £13.5 million by Transfer Markt, has had a tough time at Man Utd, but that shouldn’t take away from his quality.
The young Englishman emerged as a fantastic talent whilst still a teenager at Southampton, and that’s interesting given that he came from an academy that Liverpool have benefitted from considerably over the years.
Offering dynamic pace, fantastic crossing and brilliant energy, he was a real force down the left-hand side, and that eventually earned him a move to Man Utd.
Mourinho, clearly, isn’t really a fan of him, but that shouldn’t put Klopp off the prospect of signing him. The German has been brilliant at bringing the best out of overlooked talent like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dejan Lovren, and so perhaps he could have a similar impact with Shaw.
Man Utd would likely demand a sizeable sum to sell to their rivals, but if Liverpool can bring him in, they could have their left-back spot sorted for the best part of a decade.
