Liverpool should raid Arsenal for the second successive summer if Emre Can leaves – agreed?

The Liverpool fans have been delighted with their club’s progress in recent months, but they are concerned that the departure of Emre Can could negatively impact on their ambitions for next season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are undoubtedly a team on the up, as their recent results serve to exemplify. Liverpool’s climb towards 2nd place in the Premier League table combined with their Champions League quarter-final victory over Manchester City have given the supporters genuine hope of mounting a title challenge next season.

However, Liverpool’s success of late does not appear to have convinced Emre Can that he should remain at the club beyond the summer when his contract with the Reds is due to expire. The future of the German international still hangs in the balance and, with no real talk of a potential renewal, Klopp should begin his hunt for a new central midfielder this summer.

Liverpool have Naby Keita’s arrival on the imminent horizon, but that should not deter the club from making further additions to their midfield options. The Reds raided Arsenal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain last summer and so far that transfer has certainly paid dividends on the evidence of his performances since arriving on Merseyside.

And considering Chamberlain’s success with the Reds, Klopp would be wise to land another Arsneal talent this summer to supplement his midfield options in the event of Emre Can’s departure, namely Aaron Ramsey.

Ramsey (valued at £36 million by Transfermarkt) has been with the Gunners for over 7 years, so it’s likely that he will at least be considering the possibility of embarking on a new challenge this summer. The Welsh international’s contract in North-London is set to expire in the summer of 2019, so he should be available at a reduced price during the upcoming transfer window.

Ramsey’s form has been slightly hit and miss at times during his Arsenal career, but he has managed to find consistency during the current campaign with his box-to-box style of play, and his energy in midfield could prove to be a valuable asset for Liverpool next season.

Arsenal will be reluctant to sell yet another player to Liverpool just one season on from the Oxlade-Chamberlain, but they would certainly rather sell him in the summer than lose him on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.

With that in mind, Liverpool would be foolish not to bid for Ramsey’s services this summer if Emre Can eventually decides to leave the club.
