Liverpool absolutely blitzed their way past Manchester City this week in the Champions League, smashing three goals past them in the opening half to put themselves within touching distance of a Champions League semi-final place.
The Reds, led once again by the performance of Mo Salah, who departed in the second half through injury, will have been delighted with their showing, and our punters here in the Tavern were in awe of the performance from Jurgen Klopp’s men.
However, our landlord is getting itchy feet about whether or not the club can keep hold of their star man Salah, and he thinks the club should be lining up potential replacements.
One man he has picked out as a potential Salah replacement is Lisbon wing Gelson Martins, who has been in excellent form this term once more.
The pacey wide-man has been in excellent form for the Portuguese giants for a number of seasons now and looks well on his to becoming a top player if he carries on. His dribbling, final ball, and finishing ability make him a dangerous opponent, and he is still of a young age, meaning he can develop further in the Premier League.
Seven goals and six assists this season back up his potential, and at just 22, there is is plenty of room for improvement and development.
Lisbon will certainly not want to lose him, but if Liverpool can command a fee in the region of £100m for Salah, then they will be seeking replacements, and Martins could be the perfect signing for the Anfield outfit this summer.
Liverpool fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
