Liverpool have enjoyed a fantastic transfer window so far with 4 major signings to report, but there is reason to suggest that they should be targeting one final deal which would undoubtedly send shockwaves through the Premier League on deadline day.
The Reds managed to successfully raid Arsenal to secure the signature of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain last summer who, despite a slow start, blossomed into a key player for Jurgen Klopp’s side as the season developed. However, a desperately unfortunate injury which ruled him out of the Champions League final and the World Cup looks set to rule him out of the majority of the new season, so Liverpool should be open to the possibility of signing a replacement before the window slams shut.
Liverpool’s pool of midfielders will naturally do their best to fill the void left by Chamberlain, but the energy provided by the England international is one which is difficult to replicate and hard to come by. But one player whose style of play is rather synonymous with that of the England international is Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The arrival of Maurizio Sarri could potentially provide Loftus-Cheek with the opportunity to prove himself in Chelsea’s first-team, but the fact he was omitted from the Italian’s first-team squad for the Community Shield on Sunday suggests that his future lies elsewhere.
With that in mind, Liverpool should make an audacious bid to sign him on a permanent deal before the window slams shut, as he possesses the potential to become one of Europe’s most devastating midfield talents in the years to come.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury has opened the door for a box-to-box player to arrive at Anfield and inject a level of intensity which the Ox provided in abundance on Liverpool’s route to the Champions League final last season.
Liverpool have plenty of options to chose from with Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Georginio Wijnaldum all vying for a starting berth, but none of the aforementioned players can offer the dynamism and level of attacking intent which Loftus-Cheek could provide and, considering he should be available for transfer before Thursday’s deadline, Klopp should be doing everything in his power to prise him away from Stamford Bridge.
