Jurgen Klopp’s summer spending spree has stalled and every Liverpool fan here in the Transfer Tavern wants to know why.
The German kicked off the post-season in style after splashing out on former Chelsea man Mohamed Salah from Roma, and Chelsea’s Dominic Solanke swiftly followed.
It looked as if Virgil Van Dijk was ready to pack his bags for Anfield, but after Southampton complained to the FA accusing the Reds of foul play, Liverpool were forced to back off.
It’s all gone a bit quiet since.
Last season saw Philippe Coutinho and Firmino chip in with 30 goals between the two.
But the Reds are unable to rely on Daniel Sturridge, nor could they depend on Divock Origi – it’s time for Klopp to welcome a proven goalscorer to Anfield.
The man the German simply has to secure is Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.
A player Klopp has previous experience coaching at Borussia Dortmund and greatly admires.
However, Aubameyang doesn’t just represent fond memories.
The Gabon international continues to be a deadly sharp-shooter for Dortmund having bagged 31 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances last term.
Aubameyang is suggested to be a target of Chelsea after the Blues lost out on Romelu Lukaku, but it’s Liverpool who desperately need the prolific goalscorer.
The striker has been set a hefty £65m valuation, which Klopp’s side cannot afford to pass up.
What do you think Liverpool fans? Could Aubameyang bring you trophies next season or are you content with what you have? Let us know in the comments…
