Liverpool simply must sign £22.5m-rated winger if Mo Salah joins Real Madrid this summer

The resident Reds have been gushing over the performances of Mo Salah throughout his sensational campaign on his return to English football, but they are growing concerned that interest from Real Madrid could persuade him to depart Anfield in the summer.

Mo Salah has captured the imagination of football supporters throughout the world this season for his unbelievable performances in the Premier League and the Champions League. The electric Egyptian has defied all expectation with his goal-scoring record and ability to almost single-handedly win matches for the Reds.

His success since moving to Anfield will undoubtedly have caught the attention of some of Europe’s heavyweight clubs, so there’s no doubt that Jurgen Klopp’s biggest task of the summer is to convince Liverpool’s crown jewel to remain at the club for at least one more season. It will undoubtedly be a difficult task for Klopp if Real Madrid come calling for his services, as the natural appeal of moving to Los Blancos has proven too strong for top players to resist in the past.

Although Liverpool will be reluctant to accept that there’s even the smallest chance that Salah will depart the club this summer, it’s an eventuality they would be wise to prepare for. Salah is clearly an irreplaceable talent, but the signing of Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez would go some way to filling the void left by Liverpool’s talisman.

Vazquez is far from one of Madrid’s star players, so he should be available to move to Anfield this summer. If Liverpool were locked in negotiations with Real Madrid over a potential deal for Salah they should ensure that they receive Vazquez as part of the transfer.

Like Salah, Vazquez typically operates on the right-wing, although the fact he is naturally right-footed means he is not a like-for-like replacement. Vazquez has made just 14 starts in La Liga this season and 28 appearances in total, scoring 4 goals and assisting 8 in the process.

Evidently, his record is distinctly average in comparison to Salah’s staggering return this season, but his presence at Anfield would boost Liverpool’s strength in depth and give Klopp an extra player in wide positions where his options have been limited this season.

There’s no doubt that Vazquez would struggle to emulate anything like the sort of record Salah can boast this season, but if Madrid are the side who eventually approach Liverpool about a potential deal for the Premier League’s top goal-scorer, they must immediately replace him by getting Vazquez in return, as well as an astronomical transfer fee of course.
