Liverpool star completes Bundesliga switch

Pepe Reina

The done deal klaxon has gone off in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Liverpool fans are sad to see that Pepe Reina has completed his move to Bayern Munich, according to The Telegraph.

The 31-year-old Spaniard has joined the Bundesliga champions on a permanent deal, and in doing so brings an end to his eight year association with Liverpool.

Reina spent last season on loan under the guidance of former boss Rafael Benitez at Napoli, and after returning to Liverpool for pre season training, was made surplus to requirements by manager Brendan Rodgers.

On the signing of Reina, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “It reflects what we were looking for. We wanted a goalkeeper who is experienced and established and also has certain footballing qualities.”

Reina broke a club record 11 consecutive clean sheets during his first season with Liverpool.

He also won the Barclays Golden Glove award three seasons in a row for the most clean sheets, and also broke the club record for the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets after 50 games (28).

Reina picked up FA Cup, Super Cup, and League Cup winners medals during his time at Liverpool, and was also an integral part of the side that reached the 2007 Champions League final.
