Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are about to see a great weekend capped off perfectly courtesy of news delivered by BBC Sport.
The Beeb seem to think that one of their key men is set to be offered a new deal.
Brendan Rodgers has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks after a string of bad results and has had to deny reports of a rift with skipper Steven Gerrard.
The Northern Irishman has gone one further than actually denying there is bad blood between the pair, claiming that Gerrard has indeed been offered a new deal by the Reds.
Rodgers spoke about a new deal being on the table and noted: “It is a big move not just in his life but in terms of committing where his next contract is going to be.
“There are probably many things Steven would have to think about in a decision like this but it certainly won’t be money. I have spoken to him often enough and at length and that won’t be the case.”
“No matter how good a player has been, once they come towards those final years then as manager you are having to think how you can get the best out of the player.”
Our regulars think that Gerrard certainly deserves a new deal but after watching him in recent games, we know that he needs to be used sparingly.
Rodgers could well take a few tips from Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini who seems to be getting the best out of Frank Lampard in the twilight of his career.
