Mario Balotelli never does seem to know when to keep his mouth shut according to our punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern and after reading the latest reports in The Independent, we cannot help but agree!
The Italian forward has come under increasing criticism for his performances this season and now faces a crucial spell at Anfield with crunch Champions League games against Real Madrid approaching not to mention the fight for a top four spot in the Premeir League.
Despite only netting one goal since his arrival, the former Manchester City forward has become a Reds fan favourite and he recently praised the support he had been given. However, despite that he still had some excuses to give for his lack of goals so far.
He claimed that Brendan Rodgers’ tactics are the real issue, noting when speaking to Sport magazine that: “I have never been a real, out-and-out striker – I have always been someone who goes around the pitch,
“If it was my choice, I would always go with two strikers. It’s the way I like to play, but Brendan asked me to play as the first striker.”
As our regulars note, the Italian has simply not lived up to expectations after seeing Luis Suarez leave.
However, there could well be a light at the end of the tunnel with Daniel Sturridge set to return to the side after an injury layoff, enabling Balotelli to work with the forward partner he desires – if he is not dropped that is!
Liverpool fans. Will things get better when Sturridge comes back to the side? Let us know your thoughts below.
