There is panic amongst Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern when sources at the Daily Star claim a forward is looking to leave Anfield in the summer.
However, calm is restored once we explain it is not Luis Suarez or Daniel Sturridge.
The duo have become the most feared partnership in England, notching 49 goals between them so far this season. Their form has left £7 million summer signing Iago Aspas out in the cold, with the Spaniard having managed only five Premier League starts under Brendan Rodgers this season.
The 26-year-old has managed only one goal in his 14 Reds appearances to date – the opener in the 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup in January – and it seems the Spaniard is keen to move on in search of regular first team football.
He said: “I’m not 20 years old anymore, I can’t go on loan and explode.
“I think the best would be to transfer to another club that I find the best fit for myself and the club.”
Aspas added: “This is the hardest part. I used to play almost all the matches and I arrived here – playing much less.
“This is the tough side of football.”
Liverpool fans. Would you have liked to have seen Iago Aspas given more first team opportunities? Leave your thoughts below.
