Liverpool star looking to cut short seven-year Anfield stay

The importance of Lucas and Gerrard cannot be underestimated Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hoping that they can go one better this season but one player wants out.

According to The Independent, Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva is looking to leave Liverpool in favour of a move to Italy.

The 27-year-old Brazilian is hoping to be reunited with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez at Napoli who managed him at Anfield.

But reports suggest there are various obstacles for the Italian side to go through if they want to bring him to the Stadio San Paolo.

Beinitez is also in contact with Manchester United as he keeps tabs on former Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

However the Belgian’s £100,000-a-week salary at United proves a stumbling block with the Italian side unable to match that in its entirety.

Meaning a move for Lucas is a lot more fathomable, especially as the player is keen on the move.

The midfielder, who signed for Liverpool from Gremio in 2007, has only started 20 games for the Champions League qualifiers last campaign.
