Liverpool and Sunderland supporters have been waiting patiently in the Football Transfer Tavern for an update on the future of Fabio Borini, however the Newcastle Chronicle has now provided them with one.
Sunderland had been hoping to confirm a trio of signings this week in the form of Borini, Santiago Vergini and Jack Rodwell but the Black Cats only managed to get the latter two deals over the line.
Borini is still deciding on his future with the Italian eager to prove himself at Liverpool following the departure of Luis Suarez.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light and fired 10 goals in all competitions as the Wearsiders pulled off a dramatic escape from relegation.
Borini was awarded the north east club’s young player of the season and Liverpool had accepted a bid of £14 million.
However, the deal has been held up with Borini reluctant to make a decision on his future just yet.
Gus Poyet said last week: “We’ll know (if Borini is to join) in two or three days,” but a decision is still yet to be made.
Liverpool appear eager to sell in order to fund a move for another top striker. The Reds have already missed out on Alexis Sanchez and Loic Remy this summer and have most recently been linked with South American superstars Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani.
