Liverpool star open to Italian switch

skrtel.jpgLiverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are expecting a busy summer at Anfield as Brendan Rodgers brings new players into the club but they also expect some high profile departures with, of course, Luis Suarez heavily rumoured to be seeking a way out.

However fortunately for Reds supporters today’s speculation in the tavern is not about the mercurial striker but instead about defender Martin Skrtel whose agent has told talkSPORT that he would be interested in a move to Italy with Napoli this summer.

The 28-year-old centre back had a disappointing 2012/13 campaign at Anfield and he fell out of favour with Rodgers preferring the experience of Jamie Carragher over the Slovakian which could now see him departing the club in the post-season.

Despite the retirement of Liverpool legend Carragher, Skrtel has been tipped to leave and his agent Karol Csonto believes that the defender could link up with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez at Napoli.

“Between Martin Skrtel and Rafa Benitez is a professional relationship that has gone on from the years they spent together at Liverpool,” Csonto is reported as saying by talkSPORT.

“[Napoli midfielder] Marek Hamsik and Skrtel are very good friends and they met last week. The midfielder requested information from Martin about Benitez, while Skrtel has asked questions about Napoli.

“But I think that if Napoli want to take Skrtel, they should first talk to Liverpool.”
