Metro have Liverpool fans crowding around the bar here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as they try and hear the latest piece of news from our landlord.
The publication note that on loan goalkeeper Pepe Reina is set to leave the club altogether this summer when his loan deal ends.
As our landlord reminds us, the player has been on loan in Serie A at Napoli, who of course are managed by the man he worked with during his best spell at Anfield, Rafael Benitez.
The keeper went out of his way to praise Benitez, and had nothing but good things to say about his time on Merseyside – but failed to mention current manager Brendan Rodgers, who as we all know, is not someone that had total faith in the player.
Reina spoke about his future and claimed: “I’ll be here right to the end, but not even I know what will happen after. I’m here now, but I’ve got to return to Liverpool, although it’s unlikely I’ll stay there.
“[Rafael] Benitez was the most important figure in me arriving here. He convinced me to join this ambitious project at a great club.
“Obviously I also wanted to get to know a different league, while it was Liverpool who took the first step by not wanting me anymore because they were placing their faith in a younger goalkeeper.”
Barcelona are keen on the player, and we think that his time at Anfield is over.
Do you believe Napoli will land Reina on a permanent basis at the end of the season or will he return to La Liga? Let us know your thoughts below.
