Liverpool fans are looking seriously depressed here in the Football Transfer Tavern and their mood has been made worse by the Daily Star who think that one of their long serving players will be leaving come January.
The publication seem to think that Lucas Leiva is being tracked by former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez who is of course Napoli manager nowadays.
The 27-year-old has been disappointed with the lack of playing time at the club and his agent claimed: “Lucas really likes Benitez. After all, the two know each other well.”
Now as our regulars note, Benitez has made it very clear that he would be willing to return to Anfield and given his wife and kids still live in the city, we think that he would potentially be open to replacing Brendan Rodgers who is coming under increasing pressure.
That would of course mean that should he really want to link up with Lucas again on a long-term basis, he may as well just wait until the summer to do so!
As our punters note over a pint, whilst Lucas may not be the best player at Anfield, he still gives it his all and has the backbone that a fair few of the current crop are lacking.
Liverpool fans. Do you think Lucas’ time at the club should come to a close or is he someone you would like to keep? Let us know your thoughts below.
