Manchester United and Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are both eager to see their sides trim their squads before the Premier League season kicks off, with Metro claiming Napoli are ready to help.
The Italian giants were looking to secure the signing of Manchester United flop Maraoune Fellaini, but are said to have pulled out of the deal and have instead turned their attentions to Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva.
The Reds have been the busiest Premier League club in the transfer market this summer and have strengthened their midfield with the signings of Emre Can and Adam Lallana.
That looks to have pushed Lucas further down the pecking order and a reunion with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez now looks on the cards.
Benitez was the man who brought Lucas to Liverpool in 2007 and appears to have identified him as the man to strengthen his midfield after being put off by the £4 million loan fee being quoted for Fellaini.
Benitez said earlier this week: “Fellaini is a Manchester United player, it does not depend on us, but it depends on them.
“He is a great player, but he is at another team. It appears he is waiting for van Gaal. We will have to wait.”
Liverpool fans. Will you be disappointed to see Lucas Leiva go? And Manchester United fans, does Fellaini have any sort of future at Old Trafford? Let us know your thoughts below.
