The Daily Express has Liverpool fans looking up with some serious interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern after Brendan Rodgers had a couple of harsh words to say about his star forward Daniel Sturridge.
The former Chelsea forward has been suffering from several injury issues this season and has missed a huge part of the Liverpool campaign.
That, as one of our punters notes, has had a rather detrimental effect on their Premier League title challenge which is now more of a race for the top four!
The Reds boss claimed: “He [Sturridge] won’t become a top European striker until he plays consistently,
“It doesn’t matter about potential. You have to play. When Daniel comes back into the team, you will see the confidence because of the movement and the dynamic.
“But he isn’t fit and he hasn’t been for a long time. We just have to work without him and, while we are doing that stay up and around the top end of the table.”
Although what Rodgers says appears correct, our resident Reds fans are shocked that the Northern Irishman was so matter of fact in his opening statement.
The former Swansea City boss is known in the football world as one of the most ardent defenders of his players.
Liverpool fans. Even when Sturridge returns to the Reds’ first eleven, are you still in need of a Saido Berahino or Gonzalo Higuain coming into the club to support both he and Mario Balotelli? Let us know your thoughts below.
