The Football Transfer Tavern’s favourite summer transfer saga appears to be ongoing as Luis Suarez is set to bide his time over a transfer request at Liverpool, according to The Guardian.
The Uruguayan striker was banished to train on his own this week and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes the club are in control of the situation.
Suarez is yet to hand in a formal transfer request but the 26-year-old has repeatedly said that he wants to leave Anfield this summer with media issues and lack of European football being the problems.
Arsenal have had two big money bids turned down by Liverpool who are playing hard ball, but eventually they may have to cave in order to strengthen their own side ahead of the start of the season in seven days’ time.
Rodgers left Suarez out of his squad to face Celtic in the final pre-season game of the summer and are hoping that the saga will not have a negative effect on the rest of the squad.
“It’s been a difficult period for him but it’s my job to protect the group. Once he’s back with the spirit he’ll rejoin the group,” Rodgers said.
“We’re quite calm. The club is in control of the situation. We’ve got no inclination to sell and we’ve been strong on that.
“Luis has fought for his life for Liverpool. There will come a point where he’ll recognise the club is not going to sell and then he goes on to the pitch and he’ll give 100%.”
