Liverpool fans are discussing the future of Pepe Reina in the Football Transfer Tavern with the Spaniard set to return for pre-season with the Reds in the coming days.
And the Daily Mail reports that the 31-year-old faces an uncertain future at Anfield having just returned from a season-long loan with Napoli.
Brendan Rodgers put his faith in Simon Mignolet last season, but the Belgian was not entirely convincing, conceding 50 Premier League goals over the course of the season.
That has led to speculation that Reina may well return to battle it out for the number one shirt at Anfield with the Spaniard confirmed as being part of Liverpool’s squad for their pre-season tour of America.
“I still have two years on my contract with Liverpool, I was there for eight years, I love the city and the people there have treated me very well,’ said Reina.
“Last year I ended up at Napoli, it went very well for me there and I grew as a player but now I’m going back to Liverpool and raring to go.”
Reina remains uncertain as to whether Brendan Rodgers regards him as a serious challenger for the number one shirt however and may well seek out a move before the window closes after holding talks with the Liverpool boss.
